Welcome to Charleston's Golf Courses
Over two and a quarter centuries ago
Charleston became the birthplace of the first American golf course. Leading
golf magazines have recognized several of the golf courses of Charleston
for both excellence and play. It is no wonder that today Charleston South
Carolina is the home of 35 championship courses designed by golf greats
like Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player to name a couple. The coastal landscape
provides a back drop for the golf courses and the terrain lends itself to
some of the most interesting golf challenges a golfer may ever enjoy as
they meander down the oak lined fairways of some of the favored Charleston
golf courses.
Charleston National Golf Club
Charleston National Golf Club has an 18-hole course that is surrounded
by marshes and natural lagoons. Rees Jones designed the par 72 course
and placed wooden bridges over the course's natural landscapes. This wide-open
course is for the serious golfer. Charleston National Golf Club is in
Mount Pleasant.
Coosaw Creek
Arthur Hills designed Coosaw Creek's course is one that places emphasis
on the tee's accuracy. This course is full of woods and wetlands that
are near rolling fairways and greens. Golf Magazine says Coosaw Creek's
18-hole, par 71 course is a "must play" in North Charleston.
Crowfield Plantation
Crowfield Plantation has hardwoods and wetlands are popular with local
golfers. Crowfield Plantation is in Goose Creek.
Dunes West Golf Club
Golf Digest once voted Dune West Golf Club one of the "Top 10 New
Resort Courses" in the country. This 18-hole, par 72 course is for
golfers at any experience level. Dunes West is set on Bermuda grass and
has oak trees that are covered with Spanish moss. Arthur Hills designed
the course with limited bunkers and tree-lined fairways. This course is
located in Mount Pleasant.
Kiawah Island Resort Tiger Point
Famous golfer Jack Nicklaus designed Kiawah Island Resorts' Tiger Point
golf course on Kiawah Island. Golf Digest named it one of the "Top
75 Resort Courses" in the country. Tiger Point has oceanside holes,
wildlife, foliage, and marsh areas. The course has 18 holes with a par
72.
Legend Oaks
Legend Oaks is a public course that is located in Summerville. The 18-hole
course is located in a live oak forest and has a par 72.
The Links at Stono Ferry
The Links at Stono Ferry has a course that is enclosed by oaks and pine
tree-lined fairways that have panoramic views of a large marshland and
the Intracoastal Waterway. Previous visitors say the 12th, 13th, and 14th
holes have awesome views, but that you need to keep your concentration.
Ron Garl designed this 18-hole course with a par 72. The Links at Stono
Ferry is located in Hollywood.
Pine Forest Country Club
This is a semi-private 18-hole golf course in Summerville. Pine Forest
Country Club has live oaks, dogwoods, and a lake. Bob Spence designed
this course, which is one of the most popular new courses in the Lowcountry.
Pine Forest has a par 72.
Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club
Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club has more than 6,700 yards of fairways
that are intertwined with oak and hickory trees. The course also has several
streams and ponds, which add to the course's environment. Shadowmoss also
has a pro-shop, a snack bar, a grill and lounge, and locker rooms. The
course has 18 holes with a par 72 and is located in Charleston.
Wild Dunes
Wilde Dunes is located on the Isle of Palms, and Tom Fazio designed the
course. Wild Dune is said to have one of the prettiest courses in all
of South Carolina. This course has the world's longest water hazard, which
is the Intracoastal Waterway. Wild Dunes also has 18 holes with a par
71.
